Unauthorized Frozen Chicken Dumped Near Ho Disposed of After Public Health Intervention

​An Environmental Health and Sanitation Department team from the Ho Municipal Assembly, headed by Rev. Lawrence Senya, carried out a joint field operation at Awakpeta on 20 August 2026. The action followed reports that large quantities of frozen chicken had been illegally dumped along the border area between Ando in the Ho Municipality and Tsawenu in the Ho West District.

​The discarded poultry, which included whole chickens and various cut portions, had been left uncovered in the open for more than a day. This prolonged exposure created a serious health hazard, as the meat began to spoil and posed a high risk of bacterial contamination. Before officials arrived, several local residents had gathered portions of the meat for personal use, meal preparation, or potential resale.

​To manage the situation, officers from the Agricultural Department, Veterinary Services, Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), and the Regional Environmental Health Directorate joined forces. They conducted house-to-house visitations to educate community members on the dangers of consuming uninspected meat while retrieving any collected portions. All confiscated items, alongside the remaining pile at the site, were subsequently buried in a safe location. The joint exercise started around 2:00 p.m. and concluded at approximately 8:00 p.m.
