Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa, on Friday inaugurated the National Consultative Committee on Regional Integration (NCCRI) of ECOWAS. The newly established committee is mandated to oversee regional integration processes and monitor ECOWAS social intervention projects across the country. Speaking at the inauguration event, the Minister highlighted the importance of strengthening regional partnerships to directly improve the lives and livelihoods of citizens.
During his address, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa announced that the financial relief donated by ECOWAS for victims of Ghana’s recent June floods arrived earlier this week. The full donation of $250,000.00 equivalent to approximately 3 million Ghana Cedis has been transferred directly into the accounts of the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA). This funding will be utilized to provide immediate relief and recovery support to communities severely impacted by the deluge.
To ensure complete transparency and accountability in the distribution process, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in consensus with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), selected ADRA as an independent implementing partner. Renowned for its humanitarian work and high standards of integrity, ADRA will take full charge of managing and disbursing the relief package directly to affected individuals and families.
Emphasizing a commitment to fairness, the government affirmed that it will refrain from any involvement in selecting beneficiaries or administering the funds. By entrusting the entire initiative to an independent partner, the government aims to guarantee that the assistance reaches those who genuinely need it most without political or administrative interference.
