The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon Ghanaian Battalion 93 (UNIFIL GHANBATT 93) conducted a comprehensive medical outreach at the Elderly Welfare Centre in Rumaysh on Thursday, 15 October 2026. The exercise directly addressed the primary healthcare needs of the community's older population while building stronger ties between peacekeeping forces and local residents.
Timed to align with global activities for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the outreach uniquely blended routine healthcare services with specialized education on early cancer detection. The medical team highlighted the importance of early diagnosis, conducting clinical breast examinations alongside targeted awareness sessions designed to empower residents with vital, life-saving health information.
To ensure holistic care, the GHANBATT 93 medical unit delivered a broad range of diagnostic and treatment services. Elderly participants received thorough clinical evaluations including routine checks for blood pressure, blood sugar levels, weight, and body temperature as well as specialized consultations covering dental health and vision screenings. Necessary pharmaceutical supplies were also distributed to patients following their diagnoses.
This initiative highlights GHANBATT 93’s broader commitment to supporting civilian welfare and humanitarian effort within its operational area. By prioritizing the health and dignity of Rumaysh's elderly population, the battalion continues to reinforce community trust, foster goodwill, and fulfill its core peacekeeping mandate in southern Lebanon.
