UHAS Mega-Lab, Ho

Work has resumed on the long-awaited 5,300 square-metre Laboratory Complex at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Sokode campus, marking a major milestone in Ghana’s drive to strengthen regional higher education. After years of delay, construction has picked up pace on what will become the largest facility of its kind in Ghana and the West African sub-region. The project underscores a renewed commitment to modernising infrastructure and expanding access to quality health training in the Volta Region.

The state-of-the-art complex is designed to provide hands-on, world-class medical laboratory skills to over 1,200 students. Equipped with cutting-edge facilities, the mega-lab will elevate UHAS’s capacity to produce highly skilled health professionals ready to meet both national and regional demands. Its completion is expected to attract students from across West Africa, firmly positioning the Ho area as a premier educational hub for health sciences.

Beyond academics, the project promises significant economic benefits for the surrounding communities. The influx of students and staff will stimulate local businesses through increased demand for housing, transportation, retail services, and other support sectors. This development is set to create new opportunities for entrepreneurs and service providers while injecting fresh vitality into the regional economy.

Additionally, the facility will generate sustainable income for UHAS, enabling the university to maintain and upgrade its equipment independently. This self-sustaining model reduces reliance on external funding and ensures long-term operational excellence, allowing the institution to focus on continuous innovation in health education and research.

This revival of the UHAS Mega-Lab exemplifies the Reset Agenda in action a deliberate strategy of decentralising development, empowering the youth with world-class opportunities, and building a stronger, more resilient Ghana from the regions upward. By investing in transformative projects like this, the nation is laying the foundation for inclusive growth and human capital development that benefits all citizens.
