1 min read

The 2026 Literacy Challenge kicked off with intense competition and mixed emotions as five regional teams advanced to the next round, while five others were eliminated on Day One.

The opening day featured all 10 regional representatives competing in a series of rigorous heats, where every point was vital to securing a spot in the next stage.

By the end of the day's contests, Volta, Greater Accra, Eastern, Northern, and Bono secured their positions in the upcoming round. Conversely, Upper West, Upper East, Central, Ashanti, and Western saw their campaigns end early after failing to qualify from their respective matchups.

Day One featured several high-stakes matches:

Northern Region narrowly edged out Ashanti Region in a tight 62-58 battle.

Eastern Region delivered a decisive 54-36 win over Central Region.

Greater Accra earned progression by defeating Upper East 58-45.

Volta Region claimed their spot after defeating Upper West.

The five remaining regions now move on to Day Two, where they will compete in a Mega Challenge to decide which four teams reach the finals.
