Amid growing public concern over rising crime rates across Ghana, the Ghana Police Service successfully thwarted a robbery attempt at a GCB Bank branch in Labone, Accra, on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
During the swift police intervention, two of the suspect robbers were fatally shot, while a third accomplice was taken into custody.
The violent attempt at the Labone branch underscores a troubling trend of opportunistic crimes targeting commercial centers, schools, and local businesses in recent times.
In a brief statement following the operation, law enforcement authorities confirmed the outcome of the confrontation: “Two suspects have been gunned down and one has been arrested,” the Ghana Police Service reported.
The police have stated that additional details regarding the identities of the deceased and arrested suspects, as well as the exact timeline of the foiled raid, will be released following further investigation.
