Two Killed, Six Injured in Tragic Vehicular Collision on Accra-Kumasi Highway

1 min read

A fatal multi-vehicle crash occurred at Dr. Marbel Junction along the Accra-Kumasi Highway on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, leaving two people dead and six others with varying degrees of injury.

Officers from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded quickly to the scene. Firefighters successfully rescued one casualty who was trapped beneath a DAF truck. The injured individual was immediately transported to the Suhum Government Hospital for emergency medical treatment.

According to preliminary investigations by authorities, the crash was triggered by a mechanical failure. The DAF truck reportedly suffered a sudden brake failure, causing the driver to lose control and collide with an oncoming VW Sprinter bus. The impact pushed the bus into a stationary tricycle parked nearby.

The collision completely demolished the tricycle, while both the DAF truck and the VW Sprinter bus suffered moderate damage.

Following the incident, the GNFS reiterated its call to all drivers and vehicle owners to prioritize routine mechanical checks and maintain defensive driving practices to reduce preventable accidents on major highways.
