SC Nominee Anthony Forson Jnr. Rejects Capping Supreme Court Judges During Parliamentary Vetting

Hon. Anthony Forson Jnr

Supreme Court nominee Anthony Forson Jnr. has expressed opposition to establishing a cap on the number of judges appointed to the apex court.

Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee for his vetting, Mr. Forson explained that setting a fixed limit on judges would be hard to justify given the court's vast jurisdiction and heavy workload. He noted that such a restriction should only be considered if Parliament first reduces the scope of cases brought before the Supreme Court.

When questioned about the constitutionality of legislative decisions, the nominee stressed that any law passed by Parliament must be anchored in the Constitution and follow proper legal procedures.

Additionally, addressing questions regarding the proposed Tribunals Bill, Mr. Forson stated he sees no issue with creating tribunals, provided their establishment aligns with constitutional provisions.
