A severe flash flood along the Nepal-Tibet border has destroyed hundreds of homes and caused widespread devastation, leaving hundreds dead including several foreign nationals and many others missing.
The disaster occurred on August 26, when a massive section of a Himalayan glacier collapsed. The sudden drop sent a violent surge of water, ice, rocks, and mud rushing down the river into nearby villages.
The powerful floodwaters quickly overwhelmed downstream communities, washing away entire residential areas, roads, and key bridges. Residents had little time to escape as the waters rose rapidly throughout the region.
Emergency response teams are currently scouring the affected areas to locate survivors and recover victims. However, rescue efforts face severe delays due to destroyed infrastructure, debris-choked routes, and broken communication lines.
Local officials are still evaluating the true extent of the damage. They caution that the death toll is likely to rise as emergency crews finally access remote villages that remain isolated.
