Ministeria Reshuffle: Mahama names Kenneth Gilbert Adjei as Defence Minister to Replace Late Omane Boamah

President of the Republic of Ghana John Dramani Mahama has reassigned Kenneth Gilbert Adjei to head the Ministry of Defence, moving him from his previous role at the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.

​The appointment fills the vacancy created by the tragic death of former Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, who died in a military helicopter crash in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region on August 6, 2025.

​Pursuant to Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution, President Mahama has formally submitted Mr. Adjei’s nomination to Parliament through the Speaker for consideration and approval. Upon parliamentary confirmation, Mr. Adjei will step into his new role to lead the nation's defence sector.
