Massive Road Crash Leaves 67 Injured as Two Buses Collide on Kumasi-Accra Road

Sixty-seven individuals received medical care after a collision between two passenger buses at Duapompo along the Kumasi-Accra Highway.

​The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) disclosed in a Facebook update on Wednesday, September 2, that the incident occurred around 10:31 pm on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

​The crash involved a VIP Granbird (GW-5373-23) and a KN KIA Granbird (AK-980-26). Records from the GNFS indicate that both vehicles were carrying 34 passengers each, making a total of 68 people present during the crash.

​Sixty-seven occupants suffered various levels of injury and were assisted out of the vehicles by local residents prior to the arrival of the fire brigade. The injured were taken to the Konongo Government Hospital for emergency medical treatment.

​The driver of the VIP bus, identified as Simon Azuma, became pinned inside his vehicle. Rescue personnel successfully extricated him using specialized hydraulic equipment before transferring him to the hospital via a GNFS ambulance.

​The collision caused significant damage to the front cowl of the VIP Granbird and the rear portion of the KN KIA Granbird. Official investigations are currently ongoing to establish the precise cause of the accident.
