The Volta Region of Ghana hosts a number of notable factories and industrial facilities spread across key towns, contributing to local employment and economic development. Among the most prominent is Diamond Cement Ghana Limited, a major cement production company located in Aflao near the Togo border, which has been in operation since the early 2000s and plays a significant role in the construction sector.
In Juapong, the well-known Volta Star Textiles Limited operates as a textile manufacturing company, while Kpando hosts the Akuley Shoe Factory, a footwear production facility that has contributed to local industry, although it has faced operational challenges over the years.
Additionally, the Sokode Biscuit Factory near Ho and the Sokpekofe Milk Factory are examples of agro-processing industries that have existed in the region, alongside emerging processing plants such as starch and gari factories in areas like Agbozume and Mepe under industrialization initiatives. These factories, together with smaller agro-processing and wood-processing facilities across districts like Hohoe and North Tongu, highlight the region’s growing but still developing industrial base aimed at adding value to local resources and boosting economic growth.
