2 min read

A high-level delegation from the United States Department of Treasury, alongside officials from the Economic Section of the U.S. Embassy in Accra, paid an official visit to the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) on Friday, 18 September 2026. The visiting team was received at the GoldBod headquarters by the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Richard Nunekpeku, Esq., accompanied by the Director of Responsible Mining, Prof. Ishmael Quaicoe, and the Deputy Director of Mining Operations, James German.

During the engagement, Mr. Nunekpeku briefed the international delegation on GoldBod’s statutory mandate established under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140). He highlighted the strategic framework governing the Board’s operations and emphasized its central role in driving the Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Accumulation Programme (GANRAP), an initiative designed to bolster the country’s foreign reserves and optimize the economic returns of its vast precious mineral resources.

The Deputy CEO further detailed key institutional initiatives currently underway to transform Ghana's gold sector. These measures include expanding local refining capacity, reforming the national assay regime, establishing end-to-end digital traceability, delivering bankable geological data, formalising the artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector, and driving the ecological reclamation of degraded forest landscapes to ensure long-term sustainability across the supply chain.
