Interior Minister Urges Stronger Command Synergy in Ghana Immigration Service

2 min read

The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has called on Regional and Sector Commanders of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to enhance coordination and professionalism in tackling emerging migration and security challenges facing the nation. Addressing participants at the GIS Regional Commanders’ Conference held at the GIS Centre of Excellence in Odorkor, the Minister emphasized that effective border management and national security require seamless collaboration across institutions. He noted that operating in isolation undermines operational efficiency and the overall mandate of protecting Ghana’s borders and citizens.

The conference, convened under the timely theme “Strengthening Command Synergy for Sustainable Growth,” provided a strategic platform for leaders to reflect on current realities and chart a path forward. Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak highlighted the need for robust inter-agency partnerships, stressing that no single security institution can deliver optimal results when functioning in silos. He described command synergy as the cornerstone of operational success, institutional discipline, accountability, and long-term institutional growth within the Ghana Immigration Service.

The Minister pointed out that rising global and regional threats make this collaborative approach more critical than ever. Irregular migration, human trafficking, transnational organized crime, terrorism, and cyber-enabled security risks continue to evolve, demanding proactive, intelligence-driven, and coordinated responses from immigration authorities. He urged commanders to leverage the conference deliberations to strengthen internal mechanisms and external partnerships for more effective service delivery.

Hon. Muntaka commended the GIS leadership for organizing the conference and encouraged participants to translate discussions into actionable strategies. He assured commanders of the government’s commitment to providing the necessary resources and policy direction to support their efforts in safeguarding national security and managing migration effectively. The Minister’s address underscored the importance of professionalism, vigilance, and unity of purpose among all ranks of the service.

As Ghana continues to navigate complex migration dynamics in a rapidly changing global environment, the outcomes of this conference are expected to bolster the GIS’s capacity to respond decisively to threats while promoting orderly and secure migration. Stakeholders anticipate that the renewed focus on command synergy will yield improved operational outcomes and contribute significantly to the nation’s broader security architecture.
