The Hohoe Municipal Commander of the Ghana National Fire and Rescue Service, DO III Bismark Hosu Pobley, has strongly advised motorists to refrain from overfilling their vehicle fuel tanks, citing the heightened risk of vehicle fires associated with the practice.
DO III Pobley issued the warning while speaking on the sidelines of a road safety sensitisation programme organised by the Hohoe Municipal Assembly. The event targeted commercial motorists and executives of various transport unions, aiming to promote safer driving habits and reduce accident-related incidents in the municipality.
He explained that overfilling fuel tanks can lead to fuel spillage, especially during temperature changes or when the vehicle is in motion, potentially resulting in fire outbreaks. The commander emphasised the importance of adhering to proper fuelling practices as a simple yet effective measure to enhance road safety and protect lives and property.
The sensitisation programme forms part of ongoing efforts by local authorities and emergency services to educate road users on preventive measures. Motorists have been encouraged to remain vigilant and observe all safety protocols while on the roads.
