Ghana Police Nab 24 Suspects in Major Intelligence-Led Drug Crackdown

The Ghana Police Service’s Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Operations Team (SOT), in collaboration with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, has arrested 24 suspects during a major intelligence-led operation.

The operation targeted criminal activities across several communities in the Ashanti Region, including Kodie, Apagya, Dechemso, Old Tafo Ahenbronum, Ahodwo, and Abofour. Authorities described the operation as highly successful, resulting in the apprehension of suspected drug peddlers and other criminal elements operating within these areas.

Profile of Arrested Suspects

According to the official police press release, the 24 suspects comprise 21 males and 3 females. The arrested individuals are:

All suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations. Those found culpable will be arraigned before court.

Significant Exhibits Recovered

Police recovered a substantial cache of exhibits during the operation, including:

Vehicles: One unregistered Toyota Highlander, one unregistered Toyota Camry saloon, one Mercedes-Benz saloon (registration AS 8724-Z), and one unregistered motorcycle.

Firearm: One pump-action gun (serial number 21GN-1918) and seven rounds of RED-STAR AAA cartridges.

Narcotics: 489 pieces of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, parcels and sealed packages of suspected narcotic substances, 90 tablets of 225mg Tramadol, 140 tablets of 250mg Tramadol, 11 tablets of Royal 225mg, 38 narcotics processing materials, bottles of Femude drink suspected to be laced with narcotics, 40 locally made toffees suspected to contain narcotics, and quantities of ash residue linked to narcotics use.

Other Items: One Dell laptop, two LED television sets, three boxes of African Viagra, 52 lighters, 12 crushers, one fireproof high-security safe, and various sums of money believed to be proceeds from the sale of narcotic substances.

Police Commitment to Public Safety

The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to sustained intelligence-led operations aimed at tackling drug-related offences, violent crime, and other forms of criminality.

“The Police encourage members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement efforts by providing credible information on criminal activities through the nearest Police Station or the designated emergency channels,” the statement added.

The operation was signed off by Godwin Ahianyo, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Ashanti Region.

This coordinated effort underscores the Ghana Police Service’s intensified drive to rid the Ashanti Region of drug peddling and associated criminal networks. Residents have welcomed the development, calling for more such operations to restore peace and security in the communities.
