Ghana Armed Forces Near Completion of Accra-Kumasi Expressway Corridor Clearing

​The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Engineer Regiment has cleared 170 kilometers of the 176-kilometer right-of-way designated for the upcoming Accra-Kumasi Expressway project. With only six kilometers left to clear as the team advances toward Sawua, the preliminary site preparation is entering its final phase.

​The military engineering team's progress marks a major milestone for the critical infrastructure project. The GAF shared the update on X on Thursday, September 3, acknowledging the team's efforts in navigating difficult terrain.

​"The finish line is in sight. Out of 176 kilometres of challenging terrain, just 6 KM REMAIN!" the post read. "The elite Ghana Armed Forces Engineers have pushed through with absolute grit."

​This milestone reflects rapid advancement since mid-2026. By June 25, 2026, the team had cleared 89.5 kilometers roughly 50.9 percent of the total distance. Originally planned as a 20-week operation, the clearing process secures the required right-of-way so full-scale construction can begin.

​Once constructed, the new dual carriage way expressway will serve as a key economic artery linking Ghana's two largest cities. The road aims to shorten travel times, reduce heavy traffic congestion along the current route, and streamline trade and transportation across the region.
