The Ministry of the Interior has adjusted the restriction on motorbike usage within the Bawku Municipality and surrounding areas in the Upper East Region.
Following recommendations from the National Security Council and formal approval by Executive Instrument, both male and female riders are now allowed to operate motorbikes during daytime hours, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily, starting Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
Despite this adjustment, the existing nighttime curfew remains unchanged from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Additionally, security authorities emphasize that the total ban on carrying firearms, ammunition, or offensive weapons within Bawku and nearby communities remains strictly enforced. Anyone caught violating weapon restrictions will face immediate arrest and prosecution.
