The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC), in partnership with Zoomlion Ghana Limited and other key stakeholders, has launched a sustained intensified sanitation campaign across the Ashanti Region. Led by Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the initiative was officially rolled out during the National Sanitation Day exercise on Saturday, July 4, 2026. The campaign aims to address indiscriminate waste disposal, improve environmental cleanliness, and significantly reduce the risk of flooding as the region braces for heavy rains.
Dr. Amoakohene emphasized strict enforcement of environmental laws to deter offenders, stressing that the exercise marks the beginning of ongoing efforts rather than a one-off event. Activities include dredging of major drains, desilting, and comprehensive clean-up operations at various sites, such as the Abrebo Roundabout area near the airport. The campaign brings together the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Dredge Masters Limited, and all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region for a coordinated regional approach.
Zoomlion Ghana Limited has reaffirmed its strong commitment to the initiative through its Managing Director, Doris Kwekwor Adjei. The company is deploying heavy equipment, personnel, and logistics support to ensure effective waste management and sanitation services. This public-private partnership underscores Zoomlion’s role in supporting national and regional sanitation goals via corporate social responsibility efforts, building on its long-standing collaboration with local authorities.
Residents and businesses in the Ashanti Region are urged to actively participate by maintaining proper waste disposal habits and supporting the ongoing campaign. Authorities have warned that violations of sanitation regulations will attract strict penalties. The sustained nature of the initiative is expected to yield long-term improvements in public health, environmental sustainability, and resilience against flood-related disasters in the region.
