The South Tongu District Assembly has announced the introduction of a mandatory weekly clean-up exercise, to be held every Saturday morning until further notice. This decision follows the successful conduct of a two-day massive sanitation campaign across the district over the weekend.
In an address marking the start of the new workweek, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Victoria Dzeklo, expressed profound appreciation for the strong community participation and collective effort demonstrated during the campaign.
“I want to extend my deepest gratitude to every resident, traditional leader, youth group, security personnel, and business owner who came out over the weekend for our two-day massive clean-up exercise,” Hon. Dzeklo said. “Your energy and patriotism clearly showed what we can achieve when we work together for the betterment of our district.”
The weekend exercise focused on clearing major public spaces, market centers, and drainage systems to enhance public health and environmental standards. Building on the momentum generated, the Assembly has formalized the initiative into a permanent weekly schedule.
“A clean environment is not a one-time event — it is a culture,” Hon. Dzeklo emphasized. “To sustain the beautiful image of our district, the District Assembly has directed that the clean-up exercise will now continue every Saturday morning until further notice.”
The Assembly is calling on all corporate organizations, transport unions, and private households to fully comply with the sanitation directive. Hon. Dzeklo urged residents to view the exercise as a shared civic responsibility rather than an obligation.
“Let us make this a habit, not a chore. As we begin this new week, let’s carry that same spirit of community and responsibility into everything we do,” she added.
The initiative is expected to foster sustained cleanliness, improved public health, and greater community ownership in the district.
