The Ghana Police Service has broken up a notorious armed robbery syndicate responsible for a wave of attacks on gold dealers, mining operations, and rural communities across parts of the Ashanti and Western regions.
The crackdown followed a series of intelligence-driven operations carried out between August and September 4, 2026. The intelligence-led offensive led to the arrest of five key suspects, the death of one member, and the seizure of heavy weaponry, including three AK-47 assault rifles and 357 rounds of live ammunition. Officers also confiscated five ammunition magazines and two getaway vehicles used by the network, which actively operated across Wassa Akropong, Diaso, Dome, Abofour Camp, and the Manso area.
Among those taken into custody are Clinton Mawuli, 33; Richmond Mensah, popularly known as "Master Abey"; Daniel Sarfo, alias "Abedi"; Prince Duker; and an additional accomplice.
Another key figure in the network, 40-year-old Seidu Salifu who had been tied to prior armed robberies around Sakam, near Offinso was killed during the crackdown. Before his death, Salifu was already facing trial at the Nsuta Circuit Court over his alleged involvement in a July 2025 bullion van heist at Offinso Abofour.
In a related enforcement action on August 21, 2026, the Western Regional Police Command apprehended five additional suspects connected to the robbery and murder of 40-year-old gold dealer Seth Kobina at Agona Fie, near Agona Nkwanta.
Following dedicated investigative work into Kobina's killing, law enforcement officers identified and picked up suspects including Amponsah; Christopher Seyiri, alias "Cross and Die," 47; Bashiru Ibrahim, 20; and Thomas Odoom, alias "Wale," 30.
