The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) of Ghana has commended the Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH) Blood Bank for its exceptional commitment to quality and safety. The praise follows a detailed two-day regulatory audit of the facility.
The assessment evaluated the Blood Bank’s compliance with legal requirements, operational standards, and the performance of its Quality Management System (QMS).
During the two-day inspection, FDA officials closely reviewed the facility's core operations, focusing on safety protocols and quality control across every stage—from blood collection and processing to storage and distribution. The audit included physical inspections of the infrastructure, thorough reviews of documentation, and hands-on process verification.
Presenting their findings at an exit meeting with HTH Executive Management, the FDA team expressed strong satisfaction with the facility. Assessors highlighted the proactive approach of both hospital management and Blood Bank personnel in keeping infrastructure and workflows audit-ready. They also confirmed that clinical routines and blood-processing procedures fully comply with national safety standards.
Furthermore, the FDA commended HTH for its strong inter-departmental teamwork and active community outreach programs, which help secure a safe and steady blood supply.
To build on this success, the regulatory body outlined a few recommendations to address minor operational gaps and strengthen existing quality controls. Hospital management welcomed the feedback and promised to implement the suggested updates within the required timeframe to ensure ongoing patient safety.
