Clearing work on the Accra-Kumasi Expressway is almost complete, with less than 20 kilometres left to clear before reaching Kumasi.
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, shared the update on Friday, August 21, 2026. He stated that only about 10 to 15 kilometres remain before the highway connects with the Kumasi Ring Road (Kumasi Orbiter).
This major road project aims to connect Ghana’s two largest cities, Accra and Kumasi, making travel faster and boosting business along the route.
Minister Agbodza also highlighted the help of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who encouraged the government to fix local roads so the new Sewua Hospital can open and serve as a regional health center.
Following the Asantehene's advice, the road contractor, Kofi Job, has returned to work. The contractor is nearly finished with one side of the road and will soon start work on the other side.
Finally, the Minister thanked both the Asantehene for his leadership and the Ghana Armed Forces for assisting with the land clearing efforts.
