Nukunu Football Club has officially unveiled its new identity, transitioning from Nukunu Sports Academy to Nukunu Football Club. The rebrand, announced by club spokesperson Freeman Loso, signals the team's evolution as it prepares to compete at a higher level in Ghanaian football. According to Loso, the name change is a deliberate step that mirrors the club's expanded vision and growing ambitions beyond its foundational youth development roots.
The Wonder Boys previously competed under the "Sports Academy" banner throughout their campaigns in the Division Three and Division Two leagues. Their consistent performances culminated in a hard-fought promotion to the Division One League. The club believes the new name better aligns with its current stature and future objectives as it steps into more competitive territory.
In an exclusive interview with Volta Region Sports 360, Freeman Loso elaborated on the strategic decision.
"This change from Academy to Football Club purposely reflects our expanded vision, growing competitive ambitions, and commitment to building a complete football institution that develops talent while competing at the highest possible levels,"
he stated. Loso emphasized that while the core focus on youth development remains intact, the rebrand opens doors for greater opportunities and stronger community ties.
The spokesperson added that the new identity positions Nukunu FC for a brighter future in the national football landscape.
"While our dedication to youth development remains unchanged, our new identity positions us for greater opportunities, stronger community representation, and a brighter future in the football landscape,"
Loso noted.
Nukunu FC will now shift focus to preseason preparations as they gear up for their maiden season in Ghana’s Division One League. The club earned promotion after a dramatic 1-0 victory over Yadzo Oti Warriors in the final of the Volta Region Division Two Middle League, setting the stage for an exciting new chapter in the club's history.
