The Regional Development Projects Monitoring Team has officially inspected a newly completed Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound with staff accommodation at Bakpe, located in the Ho West District. Funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), construction on the project commenced in October 2025 and reached completion in April 2026. The inspection marks a major milestone in the district’s ongoing efforts to enhance rural health delivery.
Once operational, the modern health post will dramatically improve access to primary healthcare services for Bakpe and its neighboring communities. By combining clinical space with dedicated staff quarters, the facility directly addresses a common hurdle in rural healthcare attracting and retaining health personnel. Providing housing on-site ensures that medical staff are readily available to attend to routine medical needs, maternal care, and local emergencies.
During the site visit, the monitoring team noted that the physical structure was fully finished and currently awaiting formal handover to the Ghana Health Service (GHS). To maximize the project's impact, local stakeholders and health advocates are urging the relevant authorities to expedite the administrative handover without delay. Prompt action will ensure that the facility is commissioned quickly and begins serving residents as soon as possible.
However, a physical structure alone is only the first step. For the center to fulfill its purpose, authorities must ensure it is immediately equipped with essential medical supplies, furniture, and qualified personnel. Bringing functional healthcare infrastructure directly to the doorstep of rural communities remains a vital pillar of national health policy, and the Bakpe CHPS compound stands as a promising step toward equitable healthcare access for all.
