NADMO Delivers Relief to Akatsi South Flood Victims
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in Akatsi South has distributed dozens of essential relief items to victims of the devastating flood that struck the municipality on June 29. The timely intervention brought much-needed support to affected residents still grappling with the aftermath of the disaster. Under the leadership of the Municipal NADMO Director, Mr. Daniel Gidi, the organisation successfully reached out to those who lost property and livelihoods during the flooding.
According to Mr. Gidi, official data shows a total of nine hundred and ninety-nine victims in the municipality. The relief package included rice, cooking oil, mosquito nets, basins, drinking cups, blankets, bedsheets, and several other household necessities. The distribution exercise was carefully coordinated to ensure that assistance reached the most impacted individuals and families.
Hon. Daniel Dagba, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), acknowledged the limitations of the relief items while highlighting their importance. He noted that although the supplies cannot fully address all the needs of the beneficiaries, they would go a long way to cushion the victims and help them begin the process of recovery. The MCE’s remarks underscored the government’s commitment to supporting communities during difficult times.
Many beneficiaries who spoke to the Volta Joy crew expressed profound gratitude and joy for the government’s gesture. They appreciated the prompt response and the practical nature of the items received, which will help restore some normalcy to their daily lives in the wake of the flood disaster.
The distribution event also saw the presence of personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, the Police, Assembly Members, assembly staff, and some traditional leaders. Their collective attendance demonstrated strong inter-agency collaboration and community solidarity in supporting flood victims. The exercise took place on Tuesday, July 15, 2026.
