The long-awaited Volivo Bridge project has taken a major step toward realization following the official opening of the first bid submitted for its construction. The initial tender was presented by the JST Joint Venture, a powerful consortium of international engineering and construction giants comprising JFE Engineering Corporation, Shimizu Corporation, and TOA Corporation. Accompanied by a required bid security of US$2.3 million, the proposal signals strong momentum for one of the country's most strategic infrastructure initiatives.
Presiding over the bid opening ceremony, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, underscored the critical importance of transparency and quality in executing national development projects. Addressing the technical evaluation committee, Minister Agbodza urged members to perform a painstaking and uncompromised assessment of the proposal to ensure the state achieves maximum value for money while upholding international quality standards.
The proposed Volivo Bridge is expected to transform regional connectivity, serving as a vital transportation conduit across the Volta River. Beyond reducing transit times for goods and commuters, the bridge will unlock significant economic potential across surrounding communities by boosting trade routes, enhancing agricultural supply chains, and integrating local markets into larger economic networks.
With the first bid now formally opened and on record, the evaluation committee will systematically review the technical specifications, financial projections, and operational readiness of the JST Joint Venture. Further bids and statutory evaluation milestones are anticipated in the coming weeks, keeping the Ministry on track to select a qualified contractor and initiate physical construction.
