The Member of Parliament for South Tongu Hon. Maxwell Kwame Lukutor on Friday 14th August 2026, met with the management of Moonlight Company at Kpotame to discuss their operations, challenges, contribution to the local economy and the welfare of their workers. This move is to drive attention to the companies hard work, figure out key challenges and to gear around ways to curb them.
Moonlight Company Ltd is one of the biggest and lucrative agric-focused companies in South Tongu. Respective to this, they are known to be amongst the largest employers in the area. The company is in the cultivation of crops such as cashew, passion fruit, okra and banana which they sometimes export or serve to other local processing factory.
The management pointed out challenges such as labour shortages, land acquisition issues and the seasonal impact of the Akosombo Dam spillage, which affects their pumps at the river side station. They talked about the devastating effects of the recent floods which affected about 200 acres of farmland and damaged some farm infrastructure and crops.
The MP had time to engage with workers, who raised concerns regarding protective gear, SSNIT contributions, salary levels, transportation, working hours and other welfare issues. He promised and assured the workers to work around their needs to arrive at a lasting solution.
Hon Lukutor disclosed plans for a 126-acre coconut plantation project on adjoining land and explored a potential partnership with Moonlight Company to support the initiative through irrigation infrastructure.
