Ho West MP Secures 20,000 Cocoa Seedlings to Restore Agricultural Glory

2 min read

In a significant boost to agricultural recovery efforts in Ghana’s Volta Region, the Member of Parliament for Ho West Constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, has announced the distribution of 20,000 cocoa seedlings to revive large-scale cocoa farming. Some years ago, devastating fire outbreaks destroyed vast cocoa farms across the constituency, causing Ho West to lose its prestigious position as the leading cocoa-producing area in the Volta Region. This initiative marks the first phase of a determined effort to rebuild the sector.

The seedlings, secured through the support of Afarinick Company Limited, are now being distributed to interested farmers. Hon. Bedzrah encouraged all farmers in the constituency to contact their Assembly Members for registration and collection, ensuring a transparent and community-driven process. This move is expected to reignite economic activities and restore livelihoods that were severely impacted by the fires.

Hon. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah expressed profound gratitude to Dr. Justice Avedzi for his pivotal role in facilitating the acquisition of the seedlings. The MP highlighted the collaborative spirit behind the project, noting that such partnerships are essential for meaningful development in rural constituencies like Ho West.

The initiative is part of a broader vision to reclaim Ho West’s agricultural heritage. By empowering local farmers with quality planting materials, the constituency aims to gradually increase production levels and improve the quality of cocoa beans, positioning itself once again as a key player in the region’s cocoa economy.

“Together, we are rebuilding our agricultural heritage. By the grace of God, Ho West will once again be known as the largest and best cocoa-producing area in the Volta Region,” Hon. Bedzrah stated optimistically. This Phase One distribution signals a hopeful new chapter for thousands of farming families in the area.
