The Regional Police Training School in Ho successfully hosted a 10-kilometre Cross-Country Selection Exercise on Saturday, September 19, 2026. The event serves as a crucial preparation phase for the upcoming Ghana Police Sports Inter-Depot Cross-Country Competition, scheduled to take place in Accra on October 24, 2026.
A group of 47 recruits competed in the race, demonstrating exceptional stamina, discipline, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the event.
Following the run, the top 15 finishers were chosen to form a provisional squad for ongoing training. The leading runner finished the course with a strong time of 40 minutes and 22 seconds, while the 15th-place athlete completed the run in 45 minutes and 32 seconds. After further evaluation, the final roster will be narrowed down to 10 main representatives for the Ho Depot, with the remaining five athletes acting as reserves.
This initiative aligns with the Ghana Police Sports Unit's broader goal of discovering and cultivating athletic talent early in training, while fostering endurance, teamwork, and healthy rivalry among the nation's police depots.
Leadership from the Officer Commanding the Regional Police Training School, Chief Superintendent/Mrs. Rosina Donkor Gariba, played a key role in the success of the program. Additional recognition goes to the Sports Unit, the Second-in-Command, depot instructors, and supporting staff for their efforts.
The high level of participation from the recruits highlights the impact of the Inter-Depot program in strengthening the police force’s sports culture and identifying potential future talent for the Ghana Police Service.
