The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Ghana Battalion (GHANBATT) 93 has officially marked the start of its operational mandate with an induction religious parade and consecration of colours at its Battalion Headquarters in Al-Qawzah, Lebanon. Held on Sunday, 20 September 2026, the solemn ceremony formally inducted Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Bortey Newson into office as the Commanding Officer of GHANBATT 93. Delivering a joint sermon centered on the theme “Before You Become a Master, You Must First Become a Servant,” the Chaplain, Reverend Canon Captain Emmanuel Oppong, and the Imam, Lieutenant Fatih Yusha, underscored humility, active listening, and selflessness as the essential foundations of impactful leadership.
Addressing the gathering as the Guest of Honour, Contingent Commander Colonel Atsu Agbenyega highlighted discipline and unity as indispensable pillars for the battalion's peacekeeping mission. Drawing on operational experience, Colonel Agbenyega reminded the troops that representing Ghana on the international stage is both a privilege and an opportunity for personal and professional advancement. He urged personnel to ground their duties in collective prayer, robust teamwork, and mutual respect that transcends military rank, emphasizing that honoring authority, peers, and subordinates alike remains vital to maintaining operational cohesion.
In his maiden address, Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Bortey Newson pledged to lead with firmness and fairness, calling on all officers and soldiers to demonstrate unwavering loyalty, professionalism, and commitment.
