The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced that the government is hiring 16,000 healthcare professionals to support the Free Primary Health Care (FPHC) programme as part of efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Speaking at a durbar in Fian, located in the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District, Mr. Akandoh revealed that 8,000 health personnel have already been recruited and assigned to various health centers nationwide. He added that preparations are underway to hire the remaining 8,000 workers.
The event concluded with the distribution of home-visit kits and motorbikes to enhance the delivery of the FPHC programme.
The Minister praised the newly hired staff for accepting posts in underserved communities, particularly within the Upper West Region. He noted a significant increase in doctor placements, sharing that around 20 medical doctors accepted postings to the region recently, compared to just two in 2024.
Mr. Akandoh credited this improvement to a new government policy ensuring that newly deployed healthcare workers are fully registered on the payroll and paid within their first month of service.
