To enhance healthcare delivery across the nation’s correctional facilities, the Ghana Prisons Service, in partnership with the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP), hosted its fourth HIV Workshop on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Plush Royal Hotel in Adenta.
The initiative focused on training correctional health personnel to better manage HIV within prison systems, reduce public stigma, and uphold the dignity of both inmates and officers.
Highlighting the scope of the program, the Director of Prisons in charge of Health, DOP Joana Fofo Tackie-Otoo (Mrs.), noted that the workshop was designed to broaden officers' technical understanding of HIV management. She stressed that equipping caregivers with modern expertise, strong core values, and an empathetic approach is essential to their routine operations.
Facilitators from USAID led interactive presentations designed to refresh skills and update focal personnel on best practices. Key areas covered during the sessions included.
Through this collaborative effort, the Ghana Prisons Service continues to bridge the gap between correctional healthcare standards and broader national public health goals.
