Parts of the Greater Accra Region will experience a temporary power outage on Sunday, August 23, 2026, as the Ghana Grid Company LTD. (GRIDCo) carries out essential repair work on its transmission infrastructure.
The maintenance phase focuses on restoring a 161kV Tema-Achimota line tower in Ashaiman, which sustained structural damage during a nearby tanker explosion.
According to an official press release issued on Saturday, August 22, the scheduled disruption will run from 3:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
GRIDCo explained that the planned shutdown is necessary to allow engineering and technical crews to safely replace damaged components and fully restore the transmission line's operational integrity.
To help minimize disruption, GRIDCo is working alongside the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to manage load allocation and reduce the impact on residential and commercial customers throughout the affected zones.
Expressing regret over the inconvenience, the utility provider asked the public for patience and cooperation while work continues to secure the region’s power grid.
