Asamoah Gyan’s Emotional Tribute: Building a Lasting Legacy for His Mother’s Alma Mater

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has once again captured hearts online with the resurfaced story of his generous 2019 contribution to St. Francis College of Education in Hohoe, in Ghana’s Volta Region. In a deeply personal gesture, Gyan constructed an ultramodern water system to honour his late mother, Madam Cecilia Amoako, who had trained at the institution. The project addressed a severe water crisis at the college, providing reliable access through a mechanised borehole that continues to benefit students and staff years later.

The initiative went beyond mere infrastructure. Gyan’s mother had often spoken about the importance of supporting the college where she received her training, a wish he fulfilled as a tribute to her memory. By investing in this essential facility, the football legend not only eased daily hardships for the school community but also extended his support to the broader people of the Volta Region, where his mother had lived and worked.

In a heartfelt explanation that has touched many fans, Gyan shared: “My mum trained here. When she was alive, it was something she always emphasised until she left us, so I decided to do this to honour her. Not only her, but also the people of the Volta Region. She lived in the Volta Region, trained here, and many people have benefited from it.”

Gyan’s philanthropy earned him further recognition when he was enstooled as a chief by the Gbi Traditional Council in Hohoe. This honour celebrated his significant contributions, particularly the water project that transformed life at St. Francis College of Education. The story serves as a powerful reminder of how Gyan continues to use his platform for meaningful community impact long after his playing days.
