Roads Minister Agbodza Commends Oswal’s Progress at Afienya Bridge Site Despite GHC62M Demand from Ghana Water

​The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, expressed profound satisfaction with the quality and speed of work executed by indigenous contractor Oswal Investments Limited during an unannounced inspection tour of the Afienya Bridge project. Pushing past ongoing infrastructural challenges, the contractor has made notable headway on the critical bridge link along the Dodowa Afienya Dawhenya corridor. Minister Agbodza commended the execution on-site, noting that the contractor’s steady performance provides a clear blueprint for public infrastructure delivery: "If he continues this way, I am sure we will be done with this project by next year," the Minister remarked during his interaction with the engineering team.

​However, the progress on the vital corridor is not without significant financial bottlenecks. During the site visit, the Highways Director brought a major utility hurdle to the Minister's attention, revealing that Ghana Water Company Limited is demanding GH₵62 million to relocate utility pipelines intersecting the construction pathway. The hefty sum presents a crucial hurdle for the project's timeline, forcing the Ministry to navigate cross-agency coordination to ensure public funds are managed efficiently while avoiding delays to the ongoing works.

​Despite these cost hurdles from utility providers, Oswal Investments Limited continues to demonstrate the capacity of local contractors in tackling major highway projects. The Afienya Bridge serves as a crucial link in easing traffic congestion and enhancing trade connections across the Greater Accra region. With Minister Agbodza reaffirming the government's support and oversight, stakeholders remain optimistic that the project will meet its target completion date, provided the pipeline relocation impasse is resolved swiftly.
