The Akatsi North District marked a significant milestone in its educational infrastructure drive on Monday, February 16, 2026, as the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, joined the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Bless Kodjo Katamani, to officially break ground for major development projects at Lome-Ghana Basic School. The sod-cutting ceremony brought together traditional leaders, local assembly members, education officials, teachers, parents, and enthusiastic pupils who gathered to celebrate the rollout of the new initiatives designed to enhance the local learning environment.
The development package at Lome-Ghana Basic School encompasses the construction of a modern three-unit classroom block, a six-unit teachers’ residence complete with ancillary facilities, and a 12-unit toilet facility. These projects are strategically designed to address acute infrastructure deficits in the school by reducing classroom overcrowding and establishing basic sanitation standards. Furthermore, the inclusion of dedicated staff quarters aims to resolve one of the most pressing challenges in rural education by offering decent living conditions for posted teachers.
Addressing the gathered stakeholders, Hon. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe reiterated his unwavering commitment to advancing equitable educational opportunities across the constituency. He emphasized that investing in basic school infrastructure remains a fundamental pillar of his development agenda, stressing that improved physical facilities directly correlate with enhanced academic performance and student retention. The MP assured the community that he would continue working alongside the District Assembly to ensure resources are efficiently deployed for the benefit of all residents.
Community leaders and school management expressed profound gratitude to Hon. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe and the Akatsi North District Assembly for responding to their long-standing infrastructure needs. Local chiefs and opinion leaders pledged their full support to the project contractors to facilitate an uninterrupted workflow. They noted that the construction of both learning blocks and staff housing will transform Lome-Ghana Basic School into a model institution capable of attracting and retaining high-caliber teaching staff.
