Residents of Tengekope and its surrounding communities within the Keta Municipality have a major reason to celebrate following the official commissioning of a newly constructed, fully furnished Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound and dedicated nurses' quarters. The milestone project was jointly inaugurated by the Member of Parliament for the Keta Constituency, Hon. Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpe, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in a bid to bridge critical health infrastructure gaps and bring essential medical care directly to the doorsteps of rural dwellers.
For years, community members in and around Tengekope faced daunting challenges accessing timely healthcare, often having to travel long distances across difficult terrain to receive basic medical attention. The newly commissioned facility completely changes this narrative by providing a modern, well-equipped local hub for outpatient care, maternal and child health services, and routine immunizations. Furthermore, the inclusion of fully furnished nurses' quarters directly addresses the longstanding hurdle of accommodation deficits, ensuring that medical personnel can reside comfortably within the community and deliver round-the-clock emergency care.
Speaking at the colorful commissioning ceremony, Hon. Dzudzorli Gakpe emphasized that human capital development and community wellbeing remain top priorities under his stewardship. He noted that grassroots health delivery serves as the backbone of a robust national medical system, reassuring constituents of his unwavering commitment to partnering with the local municipal assembly to expand infrastructural development. The MCE echoed these sentiments, urging local community leaders and residents to take collective ownership of the project, protect the facility, and maintain a collaborative relationship with the health professionals posted to serve them.
Local opinion leaders, traditional authorities, and residents who graced the event expressed profound gratitude to the MP and the municipal administration for fulfilling their infrastructural promises. They noted that the facility will significantly reduce maternal mortality risks, ease the burden on pregnant women, and guarantee prompt medical responses during emergencies. As the facility officially opens its doors to the public, Tengekope stands as a shining example of impactful local governance and collaborative leadership yielding tangible results for community transformation.
