President John Dramani Mahama has hosted Makhtar Diop, Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), for a high-level bilateral engagement aimed at deepening strategic partnerships to transform Ghana’s economy. The discussions centered heavily on expanding commercial agricultural production specifically targeting cocoa, oil palm, and poultry while reinforcing the administration’s industrialisation agenda. President Mahama reiterated a firm policy commitment to process at least 50% of the nation’s raw cocoa, farm produce, and mineral resources domestically to drive value addition and generate sustainable employment for Ghanaian youth.
The bilateral meeting also addressed massive infrastructure reform under 'The Big Push' initiative, laying out plans to overhaul national railways, aviation, and road networks. To complement these physical developments, the collaboration targets critical investments in energy supply, digital connectivity, and education infrastructure. Highlighted during the session was a key milestone achieved through collaboration with the World Bank: securing a $300 million financing package designated to permanently phase out the double-track system in Senior High Schools by the end of 2027.
Despite the severe economic constraints inherited by Mahama’s administration, the government emphasized that its focus on prudent economic management and strict fiscal discipline is beginning to yield tangible results. By combining targeted agricultural expansion with substantial infrastructure and education investments, the strategic partnership with the IFC and World Bank signals a key step toward long-term economic resilience and sustainable growth.
