Seven suspected armed robbers operating across Zebilla, Garu, and Binduri have been arrested by the Upper East Regional Police Command.
The suspects have been identified as Issaka Iddrisu (20), Ali Tamimu (21), Akugre Amobila (26), Banabas Apiiga (41), Abdul-Rashid Adamu (38), Apiiga Alebena (21), and Bilal Adabodee (31). They were apprehended during a joint intelligence-led operation conducted by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), the newly deployed Black Cobra Unit, and the Zebilla Community Watchdogs.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted to being part of a larger criminal network that supplies them with weapons for robbery operations in the region.
Following news of the arrests, two victims visited the police station and positively identified two of the suspects as part of a three-man gang that robbed them at gunpoint. The stolen items included two Yamaha scooter motorbikes valued at GH¢30,000 and GH¢32,000. The victims noted that the attackers threatened to kill them if they reported the incident to law enforcement.
The suspects confessed to the robbery and disclosed that their firearm was supplied by a contact in Bawku, who also keeps weapons safe for the syndicate.
A subsequent search of the residences of Abdul-Rashid Adamu, Apiiga Alebena, and Bilal Adabodee led to the recovery of two unregistered motorbikes, a quantity of illicit drugs, and GH¢29,550 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from their illegal activities.
The Bolgatanga Circuit Court has remanded all seven suspects into police custody to reappear on September 23, 2026. Meanwhile, police have intensified operations to track down and arrest the weapon supplier.
