Ablakwa Holds High-Level Diplomacy Talks on Africa’s Future at UN General Assembly

​Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, held key bilateral discussions with three prominent global leaders on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. In separate meetings, the Foreign Minister engaged with UN Under Secretary-General and Special Adviser on Africa Ms. Ahunna Eziakonwa, International Crisis Group President and CEO Dr. Comfort Ero, and European Union Special Representative for the Sahel Ms. Birgitte Markussen. The high-level talks underscored Ghana's commitment to playing a central, proactive role in shaping security and development policies across the African continent.

​The fruitful conversations centered on advancing critical homegrown initiatives designed to bolster Africa’s sovereignty and economic resilience. Key topics on the agenda included driving progress on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), advancing Reparatory Justice, and championing the Accra Reset Agenda for Health and Resource Sovereignty. The ministers and diplomats also delved into regional integration strategies, addressing violent extremism in the Sahel, and establishing long-term diplomatic solutions to ongoing conflicts across Western Africa.

​Looking ahead to regional leadership, Minister Ablakwa outlined President Mahama’s strategic vision for the African Union Chairmanship, highlighting opportunities to build stronger institutional synergies with the UN, the International Crisis Group, and the European Union. The discussions concluded with a shared commitment to deepening partnerships and leveraging global cooperation to tackle Africa’s security challenges while fostering sustainable economic independence.
