The Volta Regional Football Association (VRFA) and Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, have restructured the upcoming regional football calendar. The second edition of the Regional Minister’s Cup will now serve as the official Volta FA U19 “Justify Your Inclusion” trial, taking place on August 16, 2026.
This strategic pivot emerged from a review session between both parties. Hon. James Gunu emphasized that transforming the Minister’s Cup into a youth evaluation platform directly aligns with his mission to empower young people through sport. He noted that the tournament aims to help aspiring players turn their talent into sustainable careers while using football as a tool to foster unity across the region.
Under the new format, participants chosen during the "Justify Your Inclusion" process will be divided into zonal squads. These teams will compete for the official trophy, medals, and individual awards. Crucially, the tournament will also double as the final selection ground for the Volta Region's official U19 squad, which will feature at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Elite U19 Championship from August 24–30, 2026.
Both the VRFA and the Regional Minister expressed confidence that this revamped competition will provide a clear, competitive path for nurturing the next generation of football talent.
