Ghana’s Democracy Cup Presented to Vice President Opoku-Agyemang at Jubilee House

Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang officially received the Democracy Cup at the Jubilee House on Friday, August 28, 2026. Accepting the trophy on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, she was presented with the cup by First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor.

​Now in its third year, the Democracy Cup initiative aims to encourage civic responsibility and strengthen national cohesion. The trophy highlights the collective duty shared by the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary to preserve and advance the country's democratic values.

​Highlighting the connection between sports and governance, the event emphasized that both football and democracy rely on active participation, clear rules, fairness, and mutual respect for established institutions. Just as in sports, while citizens may hold differing political views, the integrity of the nation remains greater than any individual faction.

​Ghana continues to hold a strong international reputation for constitutional governance. The administration reaffirmed its resolve to fortify democratic institutions, ensuring a safe environment where citizens can freely engage in national political discourse without the threat of violence.
