Ghana-South Africa Military Ties Strengthened as Outgoing Defence Attaché Bids Farewell to Army Chief

​The outgoing South African Defence Attaché to Ghana, Colonel Andrew Arnoldus, paid a farewell visit to the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, at Army Headquarters on Thursday, September 24, 2026. The visit marked the successful completion of Colonel Arnoldus’s tour of duty in Ghana and offered a moment to reflect on the longstanding partnership and mutual cooperation between the armed forces of both nations.

​During the meeting, Colonel Arnoldus expressed deep gratitude to the Military High Command for the support and hospitality extended to him throughout his tenure. He highlighted significant growth in bilateral military cooperation, particularly in education and joint training initiatives, including key student and Directing Staff exchanges. As part of his final official duties, Colonel Arnoldus formally introduced his successor, Colonel Wa, to Major General Gbetanu.

​In response, Major General Gbetanu congratulated the outgoing attaché on a meritorious service period and praised his vital contribution to bolstering ties between the Ghana Armed Forces and the South African Armed Forces. Wishing Colonel Arnoldus success in his future endeavors while extending a warm welcome to Colonel Wa, the COAS concluded the visit with a formal exchange of gifts, symbolizing appreciation, goodwill, and enduring fellowship between the two armies.
