Hon. James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, marked the eve of his birthday on September 20, 2026, by embarking on a working visit to discover and promote one of the region’s finest hidden treasures the Avu Lagoon. Spanning 17 communities across the South Tongu, Akatsi South, and Anloga districts, Avu Lagoon is a premier community-driven ecotourism destination. The pristine reserve offers visitors an immersive experience featuring canoe safaris, bird watching, vibrant cultural performances, tree planting, local gin distillery tours, and the Bludo Town Tour, alongside the rare opportunity to spot the elusive sitatunga antelope in its natural habitat.
During his tour, Hon. Gunu paid a courtesy call on Togbe Galenu II at Tosukpo, engaging local leaders and residents in fruitful discussions on strategies to fully unlock the area's tourism and economic potential. Demonstrating immediate support for community-led initiatives, the Minister responded to a request for assistance in acquiring a local transportation vessel by donating GH¢10,000 to the Bludo community, along with various essential items to aid their ecotourism efforts.
