"They Didn’t Pay Attention to It": Shatta Wale Reveals How Failed DAWA Group Project with Stonebwoy and Others Fell Apart

Dancehall musician Shatta Wale has revealed that he previously attempted to unite key players in the Ghanaian dancehall scene under a single collective named DAWA, aimed at elevating the genre to greater heights.

​According to the artist, the proposed group featured prominent figures such as Stonebwoy, Ras Kuuku, and Jupitar. However, the initiative collapsed after the other members failed to show the necessary commitment, prompting Shatta Wale to abandon the plan.

​Details of the project emerged during a recent interview on GHOne TV with host Serwaa Amihere. Shatta Wale explained that he envisioned DAWA as a forward-thinking brand capable of transforming the local dancehall industry, but the lack of interest from his colleagues brought the effort to an end.

​Reflecting on the missed opportunity, he shared:

"Once upon a time, I created a dancehall group called DAWA for us to come together to create something big for the dancehall genre. I organized a couple of artists, including Stonebwoy, Ras Kuuku, Jupitar, and others. I was thinking about the future, how we could manage it and make it a brand in Ghana, but they didn’t pay attention to it, so I moved on."
