The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has raised concerns that individuals within his team are tipping off contractors about his scheduled inspection visits, allowing them time to set up their sites beforehand.
According to the Minister, unscheduled visits and independent assessments consistently contradict the progress reports turned in by project officials.
"I am aware that whenever I plan an inspection, certain team members share the itinerary with contractors so they can prepare for my arrival. However, when I visit site unannounced on my own, no work is actually taking place," he explained.
To verify ground reality, Mr. Agbodza recently sent an independent monitoring team to assess road works across the Eastern, Ashanti, and Brong Ahafo regions. He noted that the team's observations sharply contrasted with the glowing updates submitted by regional representatives.
"I dispatched an independent group to the Eastern, Brong Ahafo, and Ashanti regions last week, and the findings in their report would disappoint you," he stated.
The Minister made these observations on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, during a visit to the Sunyani-Atronie-Acherensua road project, where he found the site completely deserted with no work in progress.
