Police in the Western Region have taken five suspects into custody following the violent robbery and killing of Seth Kobina, a 40-year-old gold dealer in Agona Fie, near Agona Nkwanta.
The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on August 20, 2026, when a group of armed men targeted a gold buying facility. During the raid, the attackers shot the proprietor in the chest. He was swiftly transported to the Agona Nkwanta Hospital but passed away shortly after arrival.
Police reviewed local CCTV footage and identified 29-year-old Emmanuel Amponsah, also known as "Vandam," as the suspected mastermind behind the attack.
On August 21, 2026, officers apprehended Amponsah at an Agona Nkwanta guest house, retrieving a locally made pistol and two live BB cartridges. Shortly after his arrest, Amponsah fell ill and was rushed to Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Ongoing investigations in the Agona Nkwanta area led to the capture of three additional suspects: Christopher Seyiri ("Cross and Die"), 47; Bashiru Ibrahim, 20; and Thomas Odoom ("Wale"), 30.
A fifth suspect, Isaac Quayeson ("Last Burial"), was arrested in Denkyira Kwaboso. Search efforts at his apartment uncovered another homemade pistol, three live cartridges, two cutlasses, and a metal bar.
The four surviving suspects remain in police custody to assist with the ongoing investigation, while search teams continue to track down remaining accomplices tied to the deadly raid.
