Afenyo-Markin Denies Personal Attack on GoldBod CEO, Calls for Audit of Company Losses

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has rejected claims that his recent critiques of Ghana GoldBod’s financial losses and operational strategy are targeted at the company's Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi.

Addressing the issue during an interview with TV3’s Christian Yalley on Monday, August 31, 2026, Afenyo-Markin clarified that the Minority caucus supports the broader Domestic Gold Purchase Programme. However, he emphasized that their primary concern lies in the execution by current leadership, which he argues has led to substantial financial setbacks.

Afenyo-Markin noted that his statements have consistently focused on institutional performance rather than individuals, maintaining that he has never singled out any official by name during parliamentary debates or media appearances.

He reiterated that calls for an investigation into GoldBod’s operations stem from genuine concerns over implementation failures rather than a personal grievance.

Highlighting the origin of the policy, he recalled that the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme was originally introduced under Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to leverage national gold reserves for economic stabilization.

According to the Minority Leader, the policy concept remains sound, but administrative missteps in its execution must be thoroughly audited.
