Xornam Favor Dei Champions Skills Development and Women Empowerment at Aflao Graduation Ceremony

Xornam Dei last Sunday had the honour of serving as Chairperson of a graduation ceremony organised by the Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association (GHBA) of the Industrial and Commercial Workers’ Union (ICU), Aflao Zone, in collaboration with Biovpa Beauty Salon.

The ceremony celebrated seven young women who successfully completed their training in hairdressing and beauty care. Ms. Dei described the occasion as a fulfilling experience, noting the importance of celebrating young women who have acquired practical skills to build sustainable livelihoods.

As part of her support for the graduates, Xornam Dei presented gifts and cash to each of the seven young women, as well as their Madam, in recognition of her dedication to training and mentoring the apprentices.

 She emphasised that empowering women with knowledge, practical skills and confidence goes beyond transforming individual lives, as it also strengthens families and contributes to the development of communities.

She stressed the importance of skills training and entrepreneurship in today’s economy, noting that while academic education remains essential, practical skills offer young people another pathway to economic independence.

According to her, skills such as hairdressing, sewing, catering, decoration, design and technology can provide young women with opportunities to create livelihoods and become self-reliant. She referenced The Dei Foundation’s April 2026 Apprenticeship Programme, through which young women who had completed more than four years of hairdressing and beauty-care training under their respective madams were supported through graduation and professional development.

Congratulating the seven graduates, Xornam Dei urged them to see their certificates as the beginning of a new chapter rather than the end of their journey. She encouraged them to continue learning, build their brands, embrace entrepreneurship and aspire to become employers of labour.

 She also commended their Madam for investing her time, knowledge and experience in developing the young women. Reaffirming her commitment to women’s empowerment, she pledged to continue supporting initiatives that equip women and girls with skills and opportunities to become financially independent and active contributors to society. “When you empower a woman, you empower a generation. When you give her a skill, you give her a tool to build a future,” she said.
